Hi Folks,
This is an unusual mid-winter fishing report. It’s mid-winter, but it feels like early spring and the fishing inshore is HOT! Here we go:
We’ll start in the Cape Fear River with nice catches of stripers in the 3 to 14 pound range. They are hitting DOA soft plastics rigged weedless and shallow running crankbaits. Trout are hitting as well in the river on ¼ oz. lead heads and pink or chartreuse grubs. Best bite is on the falling tide. In the lower river, the reds are biting well on the high tide... (Read More)
The water temperature has warmed up a few degrees to about 52 degrees at the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
Catching some red drum, striped bass, & speckled trout in the waterways, bays, & Cape Fear.

Happy New Year to you and your family. Thank you to everyone who fished with me this past year. I enjoyed making new friends and seeing regular fishing buddies. In 2012, I look forward to carrying each and everyone of you again. Now here is the report, Inshore we are catching red fish in the flats and creeks. There are some big schools on the flats, we need calm winds for this. Sight casting to these hard fighters with get anyone's blood pumping. We can fish the creeks for redfish no matter what the wind is doing. To catch the red fish we are using.. (Read More)
We are still experiencing some pretty good fishing conditions here in the Cape Fear region. The fishing has been ok but not what it normally is for this time of year. We are still catching double digit numbers of redfish and striped bass. Just not catching the big numbers of reds like we sometimes do in the winter months. Still not bad for the winter months.
The redfish are schooled up on the flats and there are some good sightfishing opportunties when the winds are light and variable. The schools on the shallow flats have been skiddish and tough to.. (Read More)
We finally got a 1 day weather window and headed off shore with my son David (in town for the holidays from Miami) and fishing pal Steve Conley. We started off jigging 1st thing looking for some Cobia and Grouper but only found a few small Jacks. Decided to switch over and try trolling for Wahoo. It did take long I was in the process of setting out the 3rd line when the medium flat line started screaming off drag. David grabbed the rod and landed a nice 40 lb Wahoo. It stayed.. (Read More)

wrightsville beach fishing charters Captain mike 910-619-8509 The last few days of fishing have been great, lots of reds moving up on the flats and oyster bars to sun and feed.Soft plastics, jerkbaits and swimbaits have been my choice .There is lots of winter moss still left on the bottom which makes anything heavy impossible to fish. The rain has set in today but the trout have started moving to the creek mouths which makes them easy to see and easy to catch. With the weather breaking this weekend, it should be the time to hit the water!

With the fluctuations in the weather lately, the fishing has been just as unpredictable. We have had several days with outstanding numbers of redfish and have had some slow days also. With the warm weather creeping back the redfish bite will become more consistent. The flounder and trout will also be showing up in good numbers soon. Several flounder have already been caught and we had a 14” speckled trout last week! The redfish have been schooled up in large schools throughout the day but as the water heats up they will start to.. (Read More)

Capt Grady had a good weekend of Fishing. This was a half day trip not far off the beach and this group had a blast. Plenty of sharks and Spanish Mackerel to catch. Grady also reported the king mackerel, dolphin and sailfish bite is still pretty good. They fished off shore Sunday and did pretty good on the school kings and caught one sail and a few dolphin. Well it is time to start talking about winter time striper trips. As most of you know, the striper fishing out of Oregon Inlet over the past two winters has not been up to par. There were some fish around, but nothing like it used to be. The main body of fish have been staying off Virginia Beach due to the unusually warm winters we have had. With this in mind we have decided to have a boat.. (Read More)
